... I got a feeling I'm gonna get flamed for this... :/
Before I explain myself, this is not directed at anyone. Even my Yaoi-loving watchers have been tolerant with my dislike of Yaoi... it's just I've seen many Yaoi fans attack non-yaoi supporters, calling them homophobes, or saying that because the person doesn't support a certain pairing or other, it automatically marks them as 'an evil homophobe'.
Please. Can we be mature? Yes, some people dislike Yaoi because they dislike the idea of homosexuality (either through religion or personal beliefs), but there's more to it than that.
1) The over-use of Yaoi has been ridiculous. You cannot browse this site for more than five minutes top without being bombarded by Yaoi. Now, this in itself isn't so bad. After all, the same can be said for fanart. But I'm afraid 'Yaoi' has turned from two men in a romantic relationship into an all-out rape-fest. People are pairing men up left right and centre in fandom. I'm perfectly fine if those characters are intended to be gay. (I myself have a bisexual OC.) But please... it's not homophobia if you'd not want to see ANYONE (man with man, man with woman, woman with woman) doing, like being raped, and making it glorified... that is not love. If anything, it almost digraces homosexuals. 2) A lot of people who say they DISLIKE Yaoi are probably tolerant of Yaoi supporters. Myself, I'm fine if there's a little Yaoi in something, as long as the work can make up for it. I've read many AkuRoku stories simply because they incredibly well written and the author respects the characters enough to tone it down. And when there's Yaoi involving people's OCs, I have no problems at all. None whatsoever. Hell, I support Neku/Joshua, simply because Joshua makes innuendos with Neku all the time, and even has a flirty joke with him... though judging by Neku's reactions, it could be a rather one-sided affection.
I guess my point is... If the characters are intended to be together, go you. I'm cool with it. The same goes for straight pairings. That's why all my pairings are backed up with proof from the canon. I'm incredibly thorough in my research, and I get the facts before I make assumptions on who may potentially be with who, if they ARE with anyone at all. Far be it from me to say I'm innocent in maybe stretching those facts and merging into interpretation, but at least I have a base for my choice.
... I've probably missed out a key explanation that'll cause Yaoi fangirls to rise up and kill me, but..... all I'm saying is 'Don't make assunmptions about someone just because they have a different viewpoint'.
Exactly, I'm not a fan of Yaoi to begin with but I find it especially irritating when people pare guys that have no cannon reason to be together. To give an example of what I mean, I dislike it when people pair Aang and Zuko together because that would never happen unless you messed with the characters a lot. I also don't really like pairing Aang and Toph together for basically the same reason, as far as I can tell, they have never showed a romantic interest in each other.

If it's worth having it's worth working ridiculously hard to get.
Even though I do enjoy Yaoi, I get what you mean. It is true that most of my fav pics consist of yaoi, but i'm not a devoted fan of it, mostly I fav them because of the cuality and because I like the characters. This sometimes gets me in trouble because a lot of fans I meet think that you should treat yaoi like it's your GOD. I dont think so. I especially related with the part about the over-use of yaoi. Sometimes the pairings they make up dont even make sense. For example I love Sasunaru, but not because they look cute together or something (although they do), It's because of everything that has happened between them in the anime and because of their personalities. I myself also like to do my homework and research about each character before I pair them up (although I have to admit that sasuhina makes no fucking sense). I mostly have a problem with HOW they put the characters. Like the submissive being so naive that he/she (cause it also relates to straight pairings) has never heard the word sex. I mean let's get real. Nowadays 10 year olds must have seen at least one porn scene. I also dont like how the dominant is all rapey. I strongly doubt that forcing your partner to have sex is love. How they draw the ordeal is also a really big turn off, unless you like your partner to cry during everthing. One of the things that most frustrates me is what the stamp is about. Fans often say that you should like yaoi or your a homophobe. I mean, dont you think that is really close minded? Because last time I checked not wanting to see straight out sex with absolutely no reason at all does not mean your an evil homophobic spawn of hell. Everytime I hear an argument lke that I always standup to defend the poor person (which in this case is my friend), cause he's so put off he doesnt even KNOW what's going on. And you know what's the worst thing? That the fans that were screaming at him didnt even notice that he was holding hands with his BOYFRIEND.

YES! I AM AWESOME! Deal bitches! And NO! I am Not Crazy...just hungry... I TAKE REQUESTS~!
This is exactly how I feel. I personally don't like yaoi but that doesn't mean I have anything against real gays. Some of the nicest people I've met are gay/lesbian. The way I see it, if your nice to me then I'll be nice to you and vice versa. I like how you brought up what most yaoi fans seem to believe. Everywhere I've seen random pairings that make no sense, and the characters are just paired up because they look cute together or something of that nature. And half the time the characters aren't even gay, and they sometimes even have girlfriends/are married. So I don't really hate the yaoi, I hate the fact that people pair up characters for no apparent reason.
EXACTLY! I don't mind it sometimes, like it's not real people! THOSE GUYS AREN'T REAL! so I find no problem, but I also don't support it in real life, you get what I mean?

not really a problem with them... I just , don't really support them... They are fine just as long as they don't try and urge me to be one, that's it. but yeah, the only way I cant really like yaoi is because it isn't real, that's it.

If anyone ever called me homophobic for not liking Yaoi I'd laugh in their face before telling them I'm bi. My main issue with it is that pretty much every Yaoi I stumble across ends up being the same damn thing over and over again.
Guy1: I'm the submissive type Guy2: Well I'm the dominant type....let's have sex for no reason. Guy1: Ok. *fangirls masturbates whilst writing*
That's basically how I see Yaoi. And no offence to women, but from what I can tell Yaoi was written for women, by women who have no god damn idea what two ordinary gay men having sex is even like let alone what a homosexual relationship is like.
Hell, Yuri probably suffers from the exact same problem and the same goes for straight stuff like that. It's usually just rape-y crap with little to no thought put into it. Yes, the BDSM community does exist, but since when is everyone and their mother apart of it?
If it's well written I might actually give it a glance, but generally erotica isn't really my thing anyway. If I wanted something with sex in it I'll just watch porn or something. If I want a gay love story for once I'll continue to look for the needles in the haystack.
